"I’m very pleased to be writing this letter of recommendation for Daniella Tomaino. I have had the pleasure of instructing her in three diploma-level classes at BCIT: Commercial Construction Drawings and Commercial Studios A and B. In each course Daniella has been one of the top students in the class and has shown incredible creativity and commitment to detail. She is extremely hardworking and is not afraid to challenge herself.

In Commercial Studio B, the students are required to conceptualize and design a restaurant as well as complete a detailed construction drawing package. Daniella’s concept was very well developed, and it required a significant amount of intricate detailing. Where some may shy away from this level of difficulty, Daniella embraced the challenge and went above and beyond what would normally be expected of a diploma-level student. I believe this drive to push boundaries and expectations will take her far in the design industry.

Daniella is very organized and well prepared for class. She uses her time wisely and always asks excellent questions during her critiques. She actively participates in class discussions and engages with classmates to help solve problems. In each of her design studio projects (retail, workplace, and restaurant) she exhibited an exceptional understanding of commercial materials and colour selection. This was a result of her self-directed research skills and drive to achieve professional-level commercial design standards.

Daniella stands out as a very capable and promising future designer. She is highly motivated, takes initiative and is a strong problem-solver making her an asset to any design team."

"I had the pleasure of hiring Daniella in January of 2020. Throughout her training she showed promise, asked questions, and proved that she understood the role she would assume. We had her scheduled to take on her first solo In-Home Kitchen Planning appointments on March 18th, 2020, which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. Daniella, while not working, remained optimistic and understanding until we were able to re-open with new protocols in place. She had been trained to complete appointments in the customers home, taking her own measurements, to online Kitchen Planning and relying on the customer to provide the correct information.

Throughout the 2 years I have worked with Daniella, I have found her to be passionate, reliable, and understanding. She has been able to take the minimal information that the client provides and help them create their dream kitchen. If/when there were times she was unsure of something, she would reach out to myself, other Planners, or Installers. In times where mistakes had been made, she always took accountability and would be sure not to make the same mistake again.

While we were sad to see her leave Modus, we expect that she will thrive in her current role, as she was an asset in ours."

"Daniella was a conscientious student and her final grades were near the top of the class for both courses. Her final presentation for the Residential Lighting project stood out for me because she had clearly invested a lot of time looking into sustainability and how a lighting designer can positively affect both energy efficiency and health and well-being in the home environment. In my experience, many students talk about their interest in sustainability, but become too overwhelmed by their course work to actually research and apply lighting design solutions that benefit the environment. Daniella’s enthusiasm and commitment make it possible for her to succeed as a student while working in the field. There is a good chance our paths will cross again if she enrolls in my ‘Commercial Lighting’ course. I wish her all the best in the next steps of her schooling and career."

"While working with Daniella she was our design assistant. She would assist me with selection of materials and finishes as well sourcing décor items. Over time she began to draw our designs on the computer on 20/20 design program and became very proficient with the program. Her attention to detail and efficiency became something we were very grateful for as we are a busy design house and have several designers to deal with. Daniella displayed eagerness when assigned a task and was always prompt with her completions and more than happy to take on more challenges. As time went on, it was easy to see how well Daniella was picking up quickly the complexities of design and how to problem solve. Daniella was always on time, polite and professional when working with clients and never hesitant to ask questions when necessary. She was a happy person with an upbeat approach to whatever was given to her. She was greatly missed when she left to continue with her schooling as it isn’t easy to find someone as talented and sweet as Daniella. I would recommend Daniella for any position or future endeavours she desires to pursue."

“Daniella is an exceptional person and student, and a talented and dedicated artist as well. She is always smiling, positive, and works hard in class and on her homework assignments. Daniella produced some beautiful and creative art pieces in my course and scored ‘A’s on all her assignments. Her final grade in the course was around 95%. I found Daniella to be reflective, thoughtful, conscientious, and open to feedback. She took the time to complete her assignments and also go the extra mile to make them stand out. Her sketchbook was exceptional amongst those that I saw for the group. On a personal level, Daniella is polite, positive, supportive of other students, and helpful to those in authority.
